St. George Baller American Single Malt Whiskey
St. George Baller is the Japanese-inspired American single malt from St. George Spirits in Alameda, California, the craft distillery founded in 1982 that helped launch the modern American whiskey movement. Baller was designed for the Highball: it starts with 100% American barley (mostly two-row pale malt, the rest lightly roasted), is distilled in the distillery's eau de vie pot stills, aged three to four years in used bourbon and French oak wine casks and filtered through maple charcoal, then finished in casks that held St. George's house-made umeshu, a plum liqueur made from California-grown ume fruit. Bottled at 47% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
It is light, bright and fruity, with malt, green apple and a distinctive plum note, a hint of vanilla and a clean, dry finish. Serve it in a tall glass with plenty of ice and soda, Japanese style, or sip it neat. A modern classic of American single malt.
