Stuhlmuller Vineyards Estate Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Stuhlmuller Vineyards is a family-owned 150-acre estate outside Healdsburg, on the Russian River at the southern edge of Alexander Valley, farmed by the Stuhlmuller family since 1982 and turned into a winery by Fritz Stuhlmuller in the mid-1990s. Winemaker Zac Childers, formerly of Torbreck, Quivira and J Vineyards, works with vineyard manager John Gorman across eleven certified-sustainable Cabernet blocks, with gravelly river-flat soils and volcanic hillsides; this estate bottling draws from seven of them. The 2022 blend is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot, fermented with native yeast in a mix of open- and closed-top tanks, with spontaneous malolactic, then aged 18 months in French oak, 50% new, and bottled at 14.3% alcohol. It is a deep ruby, full-bodied Cabernet with black cherry, currant, sage, anise, nutmeg and cedar, and a clean, herbal, spicy finish on fine-grained tannin. Wine Spectator scored it 91 points, calling it firm, concentrated and well balanced, and it took gold at the Press Democrat North Coast Wine Challenge. A standout value Alexander Valley Cab for grilled steak or roast leg of lamb. 750ml bottle. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
