Cierto Reposado is eleven months in French Limousin oak, rated 97 points, and named Best Reposado at the 2022 Craft Distillers Spirits Competition — from the men behind Fuenteseca and Don Fulano. Enrique Fonseca and Sergio Mendoza are fourth- and fifth-generation agaveros whose families have grown agave since the 1800s; Cierto is their additive-free luxury line, made at La Tequileña, NOM 1146, in the town of Tequila from fully mature estate agave in the red clay of the Atotonilco highlands, with each blend drawing on the Fonseca family's private tequila library. The Reposado ages eleven months in French oak casks — the house uses barrels that held wine, Cognac, and Armagnac — and is bottled at 40% ABV in the tall, ornate bottle. Drinkhacker found it excellent: a bright, complex nose of herbaceous agave, light vanilla, lemon pith, perfume, and gentle sweetness, with the French oak adding elegance without covering the highland agave. Paste tasted the range and found the luxe French casks the aged line's signature. Expect cooked agave, honey, vanilla, dried apricot, and a delicate spice with a long, refined finish. Honest note: eleven months in French oak makes this a serious reposado at a serious price — for the drinker who wants Fonseca's blending at its most polished, and the gift that needs the bottle.
