Código 1530 ferments with yeast from a small Amatitán bakery the founding family had used for generations — the kind of detail VinePair singled out in a brand that keeps it natural. Código is the project of former Crocs CEO Ron Snyder and Federico Vaughan, backed by George Strait, Brett Hull, and Mike Shanahan; the name honors the old-world codes of Amatitán, and the Jerusalem cross on the label comes from the Jalisco coat of arms granted in 1530. It's made at Varo Destilería, NOM 1616, in Amatitán from fully mature highland and valley blue Weber agave, cooked in stone-clay ovens, roller-milled, fermented with that bakery yeast, and double-distilled — additive-free.
