The 2024 Día de Muertos G4 is the de Madera blanco — fermented in wooden vats on the agave fibers — rested seven months in the old Jack Daniel's barrels from the legendary 55-month release, then blended with the double-barreled 7-year Reserva Especial, and presented in a hand-crafted coffin. G4 is named for four generations of Camarenas making tequila in Los Altos since 1937 — the family behind El Tesoro and Tapatío — and Felipe built El Pandillo, NOM 1579, in Jesús María in 2011 with his sons to make additive-free tequila his way: estate agave slow-roasted 22 hours in stone ovens, crushed by the handmade Felipestein tahona, double-distilled in copper, and cut with rainwater and spring water. The 2024 Reposado de Madera starts as the fan-favorite de Madera Blanco — wood-vat, fiber fermentation, well water — rests seven months in the ex-Jack Daniel's casks, takes a measure of the 7-year extra añejo before bottling at 40% ABV, and ships in a Día de Muertos coffin hand-made in San Juan de los Lagos. Expect the de Madera's rich, fiber-fermented cooked agave with the Tennessee barrel's vanilla and brown sugar and the 7-year's leather, toffee, and French-oak fruit, a heavier, sweeter mouthfeel than the standard reposado, and a long finish.
