G4 is named for four generations of Camarenas making tequila in Los Altos since 1937 — the family behind El Tesoro and Tapatío — and Felipe built El Pandillo, NOM 1579, in Jesús María in 2011 with his sons Luis Felipe and Alan to make additive-free tequila his way: estate agave slow-roasted 22 hours in stone ovens, crushed by a handmade metal tahona he named Felipestein, fermented with the family's agave yeast, double-distilled in copper, and cut with a 50/50 blend of harvested rainwater and spring water. Throwback is a limited reposado rested in used whiskey barrels for the reposado term, with a share of fiber-fermented juice for weight, bottled at 40% ABV; check your bottle for the batch. Agave Matchmaker: the agave pushes past the heavier oak, even the color differs from the standard reposado — vanilla, brown sugar, browned butter, roasted sweet potato, and caramel, viscous, with a long sweet finish.
