Grand Mayan Extra Aged Extra Anejo Tequila
A tequila.net taster with a Casa Noble Single Barrel in the other hand called Grand Mayan Extra Aged near perfection — a half-step above, at half the price. Grand Mayan is made at Tequila Selecto de Amatitán, NOM 1459, in the valley town of Amatitán — the same distillery behind Calirosa — from 100% blue Weber agave, and every bottle is a Talavera ceramic hand-painted by artisans in Mexico City, so no two are alike. The Extra Aged is an extra añejo: slow-cooked valley agave, double-distilled, aged more than three years in American and French oak with the oldest spirits resting up to five years, and bottled at 40% ABV in the painted ceramic. Sip Tequila: sweet toasted oak, caramel, vanilla, and cooked agave on the nose, then layers of caramel, dark chocolate, mascarpone, butterscotch, and cream anchored by toasted oak — a base for an Oaxacan Old Fashioned as much as a neat pour. The tequila.net taster bought it twice, three years apart, and found it just as wonderful. Expect a rich, silky, sweet palate of caramel, cocoa, cream, and oak with a long, warm finish. Honest note: a decanter extra añejo with real reviews behind it — for the Cognac drinker, the gift, and the collector who wants the bottle to be worth keeping twice. Neat, on a big cube, and keep the Talavera. The Talavera, extra aged.
