Los Arango Añejo is Corralejo's sister tequila aged past a year in oak — named for Doroteo Arango, the birth name of Pancho Villa — made at Hacienda Corralejo in Pénjamo, Guanajuato, one of the few tequilas made outside Jalisco. The hacienda is the birthplace of Miguel Hidalgo, the father of Mexican independence, and the distillery, NOM 1368, has made Corralejo there since 1996 in Charentais copper pot stills; Los Arango is the second label, using agave from the same estate, in a rounder bottle with the revolutionary on the label. The Añejo is 100% blue Weber agave from the Guanajuato fields, slow-cooked, double-distilled in the hacienda's copper pots, aged more than a year in American oak, and bottled at 40% ABV. Expect a nose of cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, and toasted oak, opening into a smooth, rounded, sweet palate of butterscotch, oak, and light spice with a warm, moderately long finish — the same approachable, full-bodied house style the Village Voice praised in Corralejo.
