The Beaded 1L is Mandala's chaquira-art extra añejo — seven years in French oak, in a one-liter bottle covered bead by bead by Wixárika (Huichol) artisans, each bead pressed into wax by hand, so no two are alike. Arturo Lomelí Ibarra founded Mandala in 2016 with Humberto Ibarra and José Joel García Barreto in the Los Altos highlands, with a mission to make a tequila worth savoring and a bottle worth keeping; the Huichol people of the Sierra Madre are famous for their beaded and yarn art, and Mandala's beaded bottles are the reason the brand exists on collectors' shelves. This edition is 100% mature highland blue Weber agave, cooked in traditional brick ovens, double-distilled, aged seven years in French oak barrels, and bottled at 40% ABV in the hand-beaded liter; check your bottle for the design, as patterns vary by artisan and batch. Old Town Tequila: a gorgeous chaquira bottle, every bead hand-applied, each one unique. Expect a deep amber pour with a nose of dried fig, caramel, vanilla, and cedar, opening into a dense, silky, sweet palate of butterscotch, dark chocolate, baking spice, and French-oak tannin with a very long finish.
