The Hess Collection Allomi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
The Hess Collection was founded in 1978 by Swiss entrepreneur and art collector Donald Hess, and the family winery, now operating as Hess Persson Estates, remains anchored on Mount Veeder with holdings across Napa Valley. The Allomi Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the family's 210-acre Allomi Vineyard, tucked east of Howell Mountain in Pope Valley and farmed as 35 separate blocks planted to six Cabernet clones. Senior winemaker Stephanie Pope blends 85% Cabernet Sauvignon with 11% Petite Sirah, 2.5% Malbec, and 1.5% Petit Verdot, then ages the wine 18 months in 30% new American oak barrels. At 14.0% alcohol, it opens with aromas of vanilla, strawberry, and cedar laced with cinnamon and nutmeg from the barrel, followed by a soft entry and a juicy, fruit-forward palate of berry, cocoa, and subtle cedar. Dusty tannins give way to a velvety, lingering finish, which is why Hess calls it one of its most popular Napa offerings. Pour this 750ml bottle with grilled tri-tip, burgers, or a mushroom and Gruyère tart. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
