North Coast Rye Whiskey comes from Traverse City Whiskey Co. in northern Michigan, the brand founded by Chris Fredrickson, Moti Goldring and Jared Rapp on a family whiskey recipe dating back to the 1920s. North Coast Rye is the company's tribute to the Great Lakes water and shoreline that surround Traverse City, and it has become one of the more visible Michigan whiskeys nationwide.
It is a blend of straight rye whiskeys, combining a standard straight rye with a 100% rye whiskey for a high overall rye content, aged three years in new charred oak and bottled at 94 proof. Traverse City describes classic rye spice on the palate with a smooth, buttery finish, and the whiskey earned a Double Gold medal at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It carries the dill, caramel and orange-peel character typical of Midwest rye with a bright, youthful energy that makes it a natural cocktail whiskey for a Manhattan, an Old Fashioned or a Rye Sour.
