Viva México is the Vivanco family's own label from Destilería El Ranchito (NOM 1414) in Arandas, in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco. The family has grown agave in Arandas since at least 1929, and in 1994 Feliciano Vivanco and his five sons founded El Ranchito and launched Viva México. For most of the next thirty years the distillery made tequila under contract for other brands, and Viva México itself was almost impossible to find in the United States until Skurnik began importing it.

Everything comes from the family's estate of sixteen small ranchos at roughly 6,600 feet, farmed organically. Blue Weber agave matured six to eight years is roasted 48 to 50 hours in brick ovens, crushed on a small roller mill, and open-fermented in stainless steel with the estate's own yeast and a champagne yeast starter while classical music plays in the fermentation room, the family's "Mozart method." Under maestro tequilero Sergio Cruz every expression is distilled twice in copper pot stills and bottled kosher and additive-free.

The core Blanco, Reposado and Añejo at 40% ABV show the dense, oily, tropical-fruit-and-mineral Highland style, while the limited editions push the process: Madera, fermented in 2,000-liter pine vats and bottled at still strength, and Tahona High Proof, milled on a volcanic stone wheel and bottled at 48%.
