William Chase — the Herefordshire farmer who turned his potatoes into Tyrrells crisps in 2002 and into vodka in 2008 — built his single-estate distillery on King Edward and Lady Claire potatoes grown on the family farm, distilled four times in a copper batch pot and twice more in what was Europe's tallest rectification column; the original took Best Vodka in the World at the 2010 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
