Bomberger's is Michter's honoring its own past. The distillery John Shenk founded in Pennsylvania in 1753 changed hands in the 1800s and became Bomberger's, then Michter's in the 20th century, before closing in the 1980s; the resurrected Michter's in Shively, Kentucky now releases an annual Bomberger's Declaration in its Legacy Series, and the 2025 edition is built on wood science. The hallmark is Chinquapin oak — Quercus muehlenbergii, a rare cousin of white oak — and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson used barrels made from staves air-dried outdoors for 18 months, three years, four years, and five years, against an industry standard of about six months; the extended seasoning breaks down harsh tannins and changes what the oak gives. Bottled at 108 proof, batch-numbered.
