The Chinquapin Oak Wheated Bourbon is Heaven Hill's Grain to Glass wheater — Kentucky-grown Beck's 6225 corn and Kentucky wheat — aged in a white oak species with more vanillin than the standard barrel, bottled at 105 proof in a 2025 limited run. Heaven Hill is the largest family-owned distillery in America, founded in Bardstown in 1935, and Grain to Glass is its traceability project: a single corn varietal grown on named Kentucky farms, distilled at Bernheim, and bottled with the seed and the field on the label. The Specialty Barrel Series changes one variable — the wood. Chinquapin is a distinct white oak species, denser and higher in vanillin than the Quercus alba of a standard barrel, and Heaven Hill coopered a limited run for this wheated bourbon, a rye bourbon, and a rye. The Wheated uses the Larceny-style wheat mashbill from Beck's 6225 corn, aged in chinquapin oak, and bottled at 105 proof. Breaking Bourbon found the wood shows more on the softer wheated spirit than on the rye bourbon — the point of the experiment.
