Old Elk is OtterBox founder Curt Richardson and master distiller Greg Metze, who spent nearly forty years running MGP's stills, in Fort Collins, Colorado; every Old Elk is brought to proof by Slow Cut, adding Rocky Mountain water over weeks rather than minutes. The 2022 Infinity Blend marries 18% of the 2021 Infinity with bourbon and wheat whiskey aged six to thirteen years — wheat whiskey is 52% of the blend this year — built by Metze from community requests, bottled uncut at 114.1 proof. Breaking Bourbon: rich caramel, rye grain, aged oak, nougat, and sharp baking spice on the nose; roasted nuts, leather, and earthy oak balanced by vanilla and butterscotch on the palate; and a finish of brown-sugar butter with lingering cinnamon and rye — 3.5 out of 5, the wheat present but not overpowering.
