Remus Repeal Reserve VI is five rare bourbon reserves distilled between 2008 and 2014 at Ross & Squibb in Lawrenceburg, Indiana — MGP's own annual showpiece, named for George Remus, the King of the Bootleggers who ran his empire from Cincinnati. Remus was a lawyer who bought up distilleries during Prohibition and sold medicinal whiskey out the back; MGP — the Indiana distillery behind half the sourced bourbon in America — put his name on its house brand in 2015, and Repeal Reserve is the yearly limited blend of its oldest stock, released each September for Bourbon Heritage Month. Series VI, the 2022 edition, marries five reserves from 2008 to 2014 — MGP's high-rye 21% and 36% recipes — and bottles at 100 proof. The house notes: nutmeg and saddle leather on the nose, then candied fruit, fig jam, oak, barrel char, mint, caramel, nutmeg, toffee, and honey, finishing on candied fruit, leather, and rye spice.
