The 2024 William Larue Weller is twelve years and six months at 125.8 proof — the cherry-cobbler vintage, Breaking Bourbon rated it 4 out of 5 for dark raspberry, chocolate, and black cherry under barrel char. WLW is the wheated Stagg: the top of the Weller line, Buffalo Trace's Pappy Van Winkle mashbill — roughly 70% corn, 16% wheat, 14% malted barley — aged in the Frankfort warehouses and bottled uncut and unfiltered once a year with the Antique Collection, named for the man credited with the first wheated bourbon in 1849. The 2024 came in at the same age as the 2023 and a gentler proof. Breaking Bourbon: cherry cobbler, sweet oak, caramel, barrel char, old leather, molasses, and light smoke on the nose; dark raspberry, chocolate, mixed nuts, and black cherry on the palate; and a finish of barrel char, sweet oak, tobacco, plum, and lingering heat.
