Willett Family Estate 10 Year Single Barrel Rye #1515 'Decade Neat' is a private-selection barrel of Willett's own distillate, aged a full ten years at the family-owned Willett Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky and bottled at cask strength, 103.6 proof. Willett Family Estate single barrels are among the most collected bottles in American whiskey, and a ten-year rye from Willett's own still, which only began running in 2012, is about as rare as they come.
Willett runs two rye recipes and this barrel showcases the high-rye mash bill of roughly 74% rye, 11% corn and 15% malted barley. Expect the Willett house character in full: toasted oak, caramelized sugar, leather, dried fig, black pepper and the signature dill on the nose, then dark cherry, baking spice, wintergreen, tobacco leaf and toffee on the palate, running into a long, dry finish of rye heat, oak tannin and nutmeg. Each private barrel gets its own name from the group that picked it, and Decade Neat says exactly how to drink it. One barrel, a few hundred bottles, and then it is gone.
