Adelphi Breath of the Isles 16 Year is an island-style blended malt from Adelphi, the Scottish independent bottler founded in 1993 and now the owner of Ardnamurchan Distillery. The "Breath of" series marries malts from a single region, and this one draws on Scotland's western isles, so expect the coastal, gently peated character that defines Islay and Hebridean whisky. It is bottled at cask strength, 57.1% ABV (114.2 proof), non chill-filtered, in a 750ml bottle.
The nose is sea spray and heather honey with toasted oak and a curl of peat smoke. The palate brings honey and vanilla sweetness first, then briny salt and earthy smoke in balance, with a rich, velvety texture from 16 years in wood. The finish is long, smoky and warming. Add a few drops of water to open it up. A great value for cask-strength island whisky with real age.
