Akashi White Oak Japanese Blended Whisky is the flagship of Eigashima Shuzo, the sake and shochu maker in Akashi, Hyogo Prefecture that received Japan's first whisky license in 1919. Its White Oak Distillery on the Seto Inland Sea is one of the smallest in the country, running two copper pot stills seasonally. This blend of malt and grain whiskies is aged in oak and bottled at 40% ABV.
The nose is orchard fruit, subtle vanilla and a hint of oak. The palate unfolds with ripe apple, honeyed sweetness and a gentle touch of spice, and the finish is long, with vanilla and oak lingering. It is light and approachable, ideal for the Japanese highball with plenty of ice and soda, and pleasant neat.
