Amass Mushroom Reserve Gin is a limited-edition release from Amass, the Los Angeles botanics house led by master distiller Morgan McLachlan. It begins with the brand's Los Angeles Dry Gin, a neutral corn spirit distilled with 29 botanicals, eleven of them from Southern California, including juniper, coriander, cedar berry and bark, California bay leaf, lime leaf, rosemary, angelica, orris root, lemon, grapefruit, bitter orange and mandarin peel, cassia, clove, nutmeg, cardamom, cubeb, long pepper, grains of paradise, ginger, licorice, fennel, hibiscus, ashwagandha, sarsaparilla and cascara sagrada. For the Mushroom Reserve, McLachlan adds shiitake, reishi and lion's mane mushrooms along with cacao and bergamot, then rests the gin for 90 days in charred new American oak barrels. Bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV) with no additives in a 750ml bottle. Expect earthy, umami depth from the mushrooms and cacao layered over the base gin's bold anise, pepper and clove spice, waxy citrus peel and dry, cocoa-dusted finish that earned Amass Dry Gin 91 points from Wine Enthusiast.
