Averell Damson Gin Liqueur is an American take on the classic English sloe gin, made in New York State from damson plums, the small, crimson, intensely tart plum that came to America with early settlers and has since become rare. Each autumn, just after the harvest, the damsons are barrel-pressed to extract their juice and the deep color of their skins, then blended with a small-batch American gin. Sold in a 750ml bottle.
The taste is bold and bright: tart plum and dark berry with warm spice, a hint of juniper and a clean, not-too-sweet finish that sets it apart from syrupy fruit liqueurs. It is delicious in a classic Sloe Gin Fizz with lemon and soda, topped with sparkling wine, stirred into a Negroni for a fruity twist, or simply sipped over ice.
