Baltamaro Fernet is the fernet in the Baltamaro series of American amari from Baltimore Spirits Company, the Maryland distillery known for its Epoch rye. It is a fresh-mint take on the classic bitter: spearmint, wintergreen and licorice lead the nose, a long, dry, lingering bitterness holds the backbone, and a lengthy rest in barrels softens the edges. Bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof), it is the only 100-proof fernet on the market. Sold in a 750ml bottle.
The taste is bright mint and wintergreen over dark, dry bitter herbs and a touch of licorice, less medicinal than the Italian originals and warmer thanks to the proof.
