Blackened x Willett is the first release in a collaboration between Metallica's Blackened whiskey and Willett Distillery of Bardstown, Kentucky. Master distillers Rob Dietrich and Drew Kulsveen selected high-rye and low-rye Willett Family Estate rye whiskeys averaging six and a half years old, finished them for 14 weeks in Madeira casks while blasting them with Blackened's Black Noise sonic-enhancement process, and bottled the result at cask strength, 54.8% ABV (109.6 proof), non-chill filtered.
Breaking Bourbon rated it 4/5 and called it "an impressive sip" with excellent intensity, finding red raspberry, strawberry, mint, charred oak, faint anise and a touch of smoke on the nose, brown sugar, strawberry rhubarb, oak and grape on the palate, and a finish of rhubarb, fig, plum, charred oak and spice.
