Bollinger Rose Champagne
Bollinger Rosé first launched in 2008 and has since doubled in volume, though it still represents only about 250,000 bottles a year — roughly a tenth of what the house produces of its flagship Special Cuvée. The blend follows Bollinger's signature formula: 62% Pinot Noir, 24% Chardonnay, and 14% Meunier, drawn from over 85% Grand and Premier Cru vineyards, with 80% of the harvest aged in oak barrels for the depth and texture that defines the entire house style. The pink color and extra structure come from blending in just 5-6% still red wine, sourced from specific plots in Verzenay and Aÿ that work the same way as Bollinger's legendary Côte aux Enfants vineyard. Critics have been consistently impressed: Tyson Stelzer's Champagne Guide scored it 97 points, with James Suckling, Wine Spectator, and JebDunnuck all landing in the 92-94 range, praising red fruit, crushed rose, toasted brioche, and cardamom on the nose, with a rounded, long-finishing palate. One notable exception: a 2017 Decanter panel tasting scored an earlier batch just 86 points, finding it earthier and a touch coarse — a reminder that even top houses see some vintage-to-vintage variation. Best served chilled, 8-10°C, as an aperitif.
