Buehler Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
Buehler's estate vineyard sits in Napa's Conn Valley, a genuinely striking piece of terroir — scattered hillside blocks looking down onto Lake Hennessy near Pritchard Hill, with iron-rich red volcanic soil strewn with boulders and fractured basalt, some vines dating back to the early 1970s. Winemaker David Cronin, who previously worked at Far Niente and Joseph Phelps, has crafted these wines since 1993, and Buehler has quietly built a reputation as one of Napa's best value Cabernets — K&L Wines calls it a longtime staff favorite, praising Cronin for flying under the radar compared to Napa's more celebrity-driven winemakers while still delivering serious quality. Vinous's Antonio Galloni called the 2021 vintage powerful, dense, and "wonderfully expressive right out of the gate," praising it as large-scaled yet finessed. Other critics found violet and hibiscus lift over blackberry and black currant, with a floral, licorice-tinged finish built to age through 2036. Not every vintage draws unanimous praise — Wine Spectator found the 2022 a bit more muddled — but the overall track record spans more than 40 years of consistent quality. Expect dark fruit (blackberry, black currant, plum), chocolate, leather, and baking spice throughout, with real structure for cellaring.
