Caliber 1844 Boar Collaboration Des Kaisers Liebste Beeren & Kräuter Liqueur
Caliber 1844 traces back to a real moment in Black Forest history: in September 1876, a storm cancelled Kaiser Wilhelm I's planned hunting trip near Bad Peterstal, so the local mayor gifted him a "Badisches Caliber" made by Andreas Kessler, the district's game warden and founder of the family distillery still running today. The Kaiser loved it enough to send a thank-you letter, sealed with the imperial crest, requesting more bottles be shipped to his summer residence — which is why the wild boar on the label still wears a hunting coat like the old Kaiser himself. This modern version starts with BOAR Gin, repeatedly recognized as one of the world's most awarded gins, then cold-macerates in 18 aromatic Black Forest berries and 44 different herbs, resting three months in oak barrels and finished with mineral-rich Peterstaler spring water. Expect a fine, fruity nose of blackcurrant and lingonberry with a gentle tartness, joined by wild raspberry and elderberry, all set against the Black Forest's dense herbal character. Bottled at 35% ABV, it's built to be served ice-cold with a splash of lemon juice and sparkling water, or mixed simply with tonic for a distinctly German summer drink.
