The Hall of Champions line comes from Cooperstown Distillery, founded in October 2013 by longtime restaurateur Gene Marra in downtown Cooperstown, New York, a short walk from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and the first distillery in Otsego County. Marra built the brand on sports-themed collectible bottles, and the distillery has since moved well past baseball into football, golf and soccer, filling more than 200,000 decanters across dozens of designs. This one is shaped like an official football, right down to raised laces, and it is capped with a pigskin replica stopper, so once the bottle is empty it still earns a spot on the shelf. Inside is Hall of Champions bourbon from Cooperstown Distillery, bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV). The distillery's own whiskey program works with New York State grain, with corn, rye, oats and malted barley in its bourbon mash, and ages in new charred American oak across 15, 30 and 53-gallon barrels. Marra credits the oats for adding complexity and a creamy dimension that sets his bourbon apart from the corn-heavy Kentucky norm.
