Celaya Reposado Tequila
Celaya Reposado comes from the tequila brand started by Matt and Ryan Kalil, the NFL Pro Bowl brothers who named it for their great-great-grandfather José Celaya, remembered in the family as a Sonora tequila maker in the late 1800s. It is distilled at NOM 1438, Destiladora del Valle de Tequila (Casa Maestri) in Tequila, Jalisco, from a proprietary blend of highland and lowland blue Weber agave, and like the rest of the range it is certified additive-free. The reposado rests three months in ex-bourbon American oak, enough to soften and add vanilla without burying the agave, and is bottled at 40% ABV. Drinkhacker's review found soft vanilla and agave notes with a creamy mouthfeel and a finish of cocoa and mint, rated it B+, and noted it as the sweet spot of the lineup for the money. Celaya positions it as the middle ground: more body than the blanco, less barrel than the añejo, the one to reach for in a reposado Old Fashioned or a stirred agave drink. One dollar from each bottle sold funds affordable housing for agave farmers and distillery workers in Jalisco.
