Cleveland Bourbon Whiskey Christmas Edition is the annual holiday release from Cleveland Whiskey, the Ohio company Tom Lix founded in 2009 around a pressure-aging process that cycles young bourbon in and out of cut wood inside stainless steel tanks instead of leaving it in a barrel for years. This one is a spiced bourbon rather than a straight bourbon: the base whiskey is dosed with holiday spices, and the brand lists vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg as the flavors driving it. It is bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV) in a 750 ml bottle. Reviewers describe candied dried orange slices, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove and anise on the nose, and a palate like an iced gingerbread cookie, with nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, brown sugar and vanilla, the orange fading and the nutmeg carrying a medium-length finish. It is built for the season: in eggnog, in a hot toddy, in a milk punch (Cleveland's own recipe pairs it with vanilla almond milk), or neat on Christmas Eve, which is roughly how the whiskey press recommends it, once a year and not as an everyday pour.
