Comte Louis de Lauriston Hors d'Age Calvados Domfrontais
Comte Louis de Lauriston Hors d'Age is the mature heart of the Domfront range, a blend of long-aged Calvados Domfrontais from the Chais du Verger Normand, the cellars Count Louis de Lauriston founded in 1962 and which Christian Drouin has run in partnership since 1992. The Domfrontais appellation requires at least 30% perry pears, and the US importer notes this blend is made 30% from pears; the fruit is pressed in jute bags, fermented slowly in wooden casks and distilled in a single pass through a column still before ageing in old oak casks. The importer lists the blend at a minimum of 12 years in oak, while the producer's current French release states at least 15 years. It is bottled at 42% ABV. Lauriston describes dried fruit, rancio, toasted nut, spice and fine wood deepened by long ageing while staying balanced; Gilbert & Gaillard noted a very ripe fruity nose with a touch of spice, and Paul Pacult's Spirit Journal rated it Highly Recommended in 2006. Awards include Gold at the World Calvados Awards 2020 and 2025, Gold from Gilbert & Gaillard 2015 and 2017, a Grand Prix d'Excellence at the Vinalies Nationales 2016 and Silver at IWSC 2018.
