Comte Louis de Lauriston Réserve Calvados Domfrontais
Comte Louis de Lauriston Réserve is the house's most decorated blend, voted best Domfrontais Calvados in the world at the 2021 World Calvados Awards. It comes from the Chais du Verger Normand in Domfront, founded in 1962 by Count Louis de Lauriston and run with Christian Drouin since 1992. Calvados Domfrontais is the smallest of the three Calvados appellations and must contain at least 30% perry pears, which grow on the region's schist and granite soils; the fruit is grated, pressed in jute bags and fermented slowly in wooden casks over winter before a single-pass column distillation. The Réserve is a blend of eaux-de-vie aged more than three years in old oak casks and bottled at 42% ABV. The producer describes a topaz colour, a nose dominated by apple and pear with cinnamon-like spice from the ageing, and a supple palate with a slightly woody structure, suggesting it for a trou normand, granités or Norman desserts. Its medal haul includes Gold at IWSC London 2013, Gold from Gilbert & Gaillard 2016, a Grand Prix d'Excellence at the Vinalies Nationales 2010, Gold at Vimoutiers 2015 and Bronze (87 points) at IWSC 2021.
