Comte Louis de Lauriston's vintage Calvados are single-harvest bottlings drawn from the ageing cellars of the Chais du Verger Normand in Domfront, which hold casks going back to the 1950s. This 2004 was distilled in 2004 and, per the US importer, bottled in 2024 after 20 years in oak. It is a Calvados Domfrontais, the appellation Count Louis de Lauriston fought to establish (recognised in 1997) that requires at least 30% perry pears and single-pass column distillation; the fruit is grated, pressed in jute bags and fermented slowly in wooden casks before distillation, then matured in old, mostly small oak casks that encourage slow concentration without heavy wood. It is bottled at 40% ABV. The producer describes a typical Domfrontais balance of ripe apple and pear fruit with warm spices such as cinnamon and almond, an expressive pear-led nose with smoky, woody notes on a second pass, and a long, elegant palate that is both dry and smooth with good length. The 2004 took Silver-Gilt and Bronze medals at Vimoutiers 2015. The brand has been operated in partnership with Christian Drouin since 1992.
