Concannon Irish Whiskey is a California-Irish collaboration. The Concannon family founded Concannon Vineyard in Livermore Valley in 1883 after emigrating from Ireland, and this whiskey brings the story full circle: a blend of Irish malt and grain whiskeys aged in bourbon barrels, then finished for four months in Concannon Petite Sirah wine casks shipped from Livermore. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
The base is smooth and honeyed with vanilla and light oak; the Petite Sirah finish adds a soft red-fruit note and a hint of spice on the finish. It is an easy neat sip and a good cocktail whiskey, especially in an Irish coffee, a whiskey ginger or a Hot Toddy.
