Cooperstown Select is the flagship straight bourbon of Cooperstown Distillery, founded in October 2013 by restaurateur Gene Marra in downtown Cooperstown, New York, a short walk from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and the first distillery in Otsego County. It is a four-grain bourbon built on New York State corn, rye, oats and barley, aged at least three years in new charred oak and bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV). Marra's use of oats, rarely seen in bourbon, is deliberate: he credits the grain with adding complexity and a creamy dimension that a corn-heavy Kentucky mash doesn't give. The 100-proof Cooperstown bourbon picked up "Liquid Gold" ratings in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible in both 2019 and 2020. This 2022 Limited Edition bottling is released in the distillery's collectible baseball decanter and made in small quantities, available only while supplies last. Published notes describe clove, allspice, light earthiness and char on the nose, a creamy palate of crème brûlée, burnt caramel and chocolate with honeyed undertones, and a finish of nutmeg, butterscotch and honey. A strong pick for bourbon drinkers who also happen to be baseball fans.
