Cutty Sark was created in 1923 by London wine merchants Berry Bros. & Rudd as a deliberately light, pale blended Scotch for the American market, and it became a Prohibition-era legend as one of the whiskies rum-runners smuggled into the United States. Named for the famous clipper ship and instantly recognizable by its yellow label, it is now produced by La Martiniquaise.
Bottled at 80 proof, Cutty Sark is bright, fresh and easygoing: citrus, vanilla, honey and light oak on the nose, a clean, gently sweet palate of malt and orchard fruit, and a short, crisp finish. It was built for mixing and still excels in a Scotch and soda, a highball or a Rob Roy, and it is one of the best-value blends for a home bar. A classic that has earned its place on the shelf for a century.
