The 2026 Día de Muertos edition of Don Julio 70 wraps the original cristalino in a bottle made for the altar: marigolds, the cempasúchil flowers said to guide spirits home, trail across the glass and stopper, with the words Eternos Por Amor, eternal through love, set above the crest. Don Julio González opened La Primavera in Atotonilco el Alto, in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco, in 1942. Inside is Don Julio 70 Añejo Claro, created in 2012 for the distillery's seventieth anniversary and the tequila that started the cristalino category: highland blue Weber agave, slow-cooked in brick ovens, double distilled, aged eighteen months in American white oak, then charcoal filtered to remove the color while keeping the barrel's vanilla and caramel, bottled at 40% ABV. Expect vanilla, toasted oak, and sweet agave on the nose, a smooth, silky palate of caramel, white chocolate, and a touch of citrus, and a long, clean finish. The liquid is the regular 70; the bottle is the reason to buy it, for the ofrenda, the collection, or a gift that means something.
