Don Ramón Platinium Reposado Cristalino is Casa Don Ramón's take on the cristalino style: an aged tequila that is filtered after barrel time to strip out most of the color and the sharper wood notes while keeping the depth the oak put in. Casa Don Ramón is one of only a couple dozen brands bringing cristalino to the US, and the Platinium line is built around it. The tequila is made under NOM 1417 in Jalisco from 100% blue Weber agave grown in the Highlands, cooked in autoclaves, fermented in stainless steel and double-distilled in stainless pot stills. As a reposado it rests at least two months, here in a combination of American and French oak, before charcoal filtration takes it back to near-clear; the house leaves a faint tint in the glass on purpose, rather than chasing total transparency. It's bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof). The brand's notes call out wood, spice, chocolate, cinnamon and soft vanilla on the nose, with citrus, nuts and vanilla on the palate, and reviewers have picked up caramel, toffee and coconut as well.
