Don Ramón Tamarindo Plata Tequila
Casa Don Ramón was founded in Jalisco in 1996 and has been owned since 2018 by Dialce, the spirits company of Mexico's iiDEA Group, with actor Pierce Brosnan as its global ambassador. Tamarindo is the brand's tamarind-flavored silver tequila, which debuted in Mexico in 2021 and arrived in the US in July 2023. The base is 100% blue Weber agave from Los Altos de Jalisco, produced under NOM 1417: the agave is cooked in autoclaves, extracted with a diffuser and screw mill, fermented in stainless steel tanks with deep well water, and double distilled in stainless steel pot stills before the tamarind flavor is added. It is bottled at 35% ABV (70 proof), lighter than a standard tequila. Tamarind is one of the defining flavors of Mexican candy, aguas frescas and snacks, and at launch the brand's marketing director noted how few tamarind-flavored spirits were available to US drinkers. Don Ramón describes the result as bright and slightly spicy, with delicate notes of tamarind. The brand recommends it as a chilled shot or in cocktails; try it in a tamarind margarita with a chile-salt rim, or topped with mineral water and lime over ice.
