Donum Home Ranch Carneros Pinot Noir
Home Ranch comes from Donum's estate in Carneros, the cool, bay-influenced region that straddles Napa and Sonoma counties. The wine is a blend from the estate's Dijon 667, Pommard, Calera, Swan and Donum selections, drawn from some of the warmer parcels and higher-impact barrels, and harvested between August 31 and September 9. It aged 16 months in French oak, 60 percent of it new, which adds structure to a ripe, powerful style. Bottled at 15.1% alcohol, it is dark ruby in the glass with kirsch and black cherry aromas, graphite and a hint of cigar. The palate is rich and intense, with plum and blueberry flavors, and the long finish carries anise and firm tannin. It is a Pinot Noir that rewards a decant and can be cellared for several years. Pair it with grilled ribeye, braised short ribs or roast duck with a red-wine reduction. A strong pick for drinkers who want weight and power from California Pinot. 750ml bottle.
