Ehlers Estate sits at the northwestern edge of St. Helena, where Sacramento grocer Bernard Ehlers planted vines and built the stone winery in 1886. The property was reassembled by French entrepreneur Jean Leducq and his wife Sylviane in the 1980s and 1990s, and today the 42-acre organically farmed estate operates under winemaker Adam Casto with viticulture by Mike Wolf. The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% estate grown on the gravelly, alluvial soils of the Bale Slough, blending Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot and aging in French oak barrels before bottling at 14.5% ABV. Critic Anne Sewell Briggs awarded the 2023 96 points for black cherry, plum compote, wild berry bramble, warm spices and dried herbs on the nose, with cedar, mocha and baking spice on a palate framed by polished, firm tannins and a long finish. Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator have consistently scored past vintages in the low 90s. Serve with herb-crusted lamb, grilled portobello or a classic steak frites. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release. 750ml bottle.
