El Dorado Single Still Enmore Rum
The still behind this rum is a genuine artifact: the Enmore wooden continuous Coffey still, built in 1880 at the Enmore Estate in Guyana, a two-column wooden still with interior copper plates — and the last surviving wooden Coffey still operating anywhere in the world. When Enmore closed in 2000, Demerara Distillers moved it to the Diamond Estate, where it still runs today. The EHP marque it produces takes its initials from the estate's early owner. This single still expression is aged 12 years in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at 40% ABV, part of El Dorado's push to showcase individual heritage stills rather than blending everything away — note a cask strength version also exists at around 54%. Expect butterscotch and roasted coconut on the nose with apple and molasses, opening into baked peach, dark chocolate, coffee, roasted hazelnut, and treacle, finishing rich and round with smoky cedar. Reviewers describe it as woodier and more earthy than the funkier Port Mourant expression, with excellent mouthfeel. Sip it neat.
