El Mexicano Anejo Tequila
El Mexicano Añejo Tequila is a masterfully crafted Highland tequila with one of the most compelling origin stories in the category. Produced by the Bañuelos family at Hacienda El Mexicano (NOM 1588) in Arandas, Jalisco — the heart of the agave Highlands — this Añejo is the work of Master Tequilero León Bañuelos Sr. and his third-generation sons León Jr. and Willy, direct descendants of Don Félix Bañuelos, the visionary co-founder of the original Tequila Cazadores. The family's approach to tequila-making is as deliberate as their legacy — a two-stage "low and slow" cooking method in stainless steel autoclaves for up to 24 hours, a unique seven-day open-air fermentation enhanced by classical music, and double distillation in custom stainless steel pot stills designed by León Sr. himself to preserve the truest expression of agave character. The result is an Añejo of remarkable elegance — deep amber in the glass, opening with aromas of ripe orchard fruit, orange marmalade, soft cedar, chamomile, and cooked agave, leading into a well-structured palate of bright citrus, roasted pineapple, cocoa nibs, baking spice, and toasted almonds, finishing long and smooth with oak, vanilla, and warm lingering sweetness.
