Elizabeth Spencer Proprietor Selected Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Elizabeth Spencer was founded in 1998 by Elizabeth Pressler and Spencer Graham, who set up their tasting room in a 1872 post office building in Rutherford and built a reputation for honest, vineyard-driven Napa wines; the winery joined the Boisset Collection in 2019, with the founders' approachable style carried forward. The Proprietor Selected Cabernet Sauvignon is the house's broadest expression of Napa Valley, blended from vineyard lots across the valley floor and benchlands, chiefly in Rutherford and Oakville, that the winemaking team singles out each vintage for ripeness and balance. It is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with small additions of other Bordeaux varieties, aged about 18 months in French oak with a share of new barrels, and bottled around 14.5% ABV. The wine shows ripe blackberry, black cherry and cassis with vanilla, cedar, dark chocolate and a dusty, savory Rutherford edge, medium-plus tannins that are rounded and approachable, and a lingering, mocha-tinged finish that makes it a reliable restaurant-style Napa Cab for the table.
