Emeritus Hallberg Ranch Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Emeritus Vineyards was founded by Brice Cutrer Jones, who started Sonoma-Cutrer, after a five-year search for a cool, well-drained hillside site. He bought 180 acres along Highway 116, two miles north of Sebastopol, on the sandy Gold Ridge soils of Hallberg Ranch. About 120 acres are planted, mainly to Pinot Noir in clones such as Pommard and Dijon 115, 777 and 828, on southwest-facing slopes that are cooled by Pacific breezes and morning fog. The vineyard is dry farmed using sustainable practices. Emeritus ages its wines in French oak, and past Hallberg Ranch vintages have spent about ten months in barrel, roughly a third of it new. Bottled at 13.4% alcohol, this wine shows red plum, cherry, tomato leaf, sweet beetroot and pomegranate, with supple, fine-grained tannins and succulent acidity. Orange zest, incense, clove and allspice emerge with time. Pair it with duck, salmon, or roasted mushrooms. 750ml bottle. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
