Emeritus Pinot Hill Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Emeritus Vineyards is a Pinot Noir specialist in western Sonoma County, and Pinot Hill is its bottling under the Sonoma Coast appellation. The Sonoma Coast is one of California's coolest wine regions, with Pacific fog and wind that slow ripening and keep acidity lively, which is why Pinot Noir does so well here. Bottled at 13.8% alcohol, the wine follows the house style of silky texture and focus. Look for black cherry, raspberry leaf and rose petal on the nose, followed by ripe red plum, cranberry and orange peel on the palate, with hints of tea, thyme and cedar. The tannins are fine, the acidity is bright, and the finish is long and savory rather than sweet. It is versatile at the table with herb-roasted duck breast, cedar-plank salmon, wild mushroom risotto or a simple roast chicken. Serve it lightly chilled, around 60 degrees, and let it breathe for a few minutes before pouring. It should drink well now and for several years ahead. 750ml bottle.
