Field & Sound is the bottled-in-bond bourbon from Long Island Spirits, founded in 2007 on New York's North Fork as the first distillery on Long Island since the 1800s, working out of a converted twin-cupola barn surrounded by old potato, corn, and rye farms. Batch 1 is the debut release. The mash bill is 60% field corn, 33% winter rye, and 7% malted barley, sweet-mash fermented and pot distilled, then aged four years in barrels on the bluffs above Long Island Sound, where hot, humid summers and cold maritime winters push the whiskey in and out of the wood. As a bottled-in-bond bourbon it must come from a single distillery and a single distilling season, age at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and go into the bottle at exactly 100 proof (50% ABV), and it's non-chill filtered. Reviewers describe a soft, bakery-sweet profile of banana, butter, cake, and cinnamon, with the rye adding spice on the back end. Winebow took the brand nationwide in 2022, making this one of the few New York bonded bourbons you can find outside the state.
