Flecha Azul was founded by Mexican-American PGA Tour golfer Abraham Ancer and Mexican entrepreneur Aron Marquez, with Mark Wahlberg joining as a partner, and the brand is produced at the Orendain distillery in Jalisco, a tequila family with more than a century of history behind it. Every expression is 100% blue Weber agave harvested at full maturity and made without additives, which Wahlberg has made a point of when talking about the brand. The range climbs from a blanco rested in stainless steel through a reposado aged six months and an añejo aged 18 months in ex-bourbon American oak, and the 3 Year Extra Añejo sits at the top: three years in oak, the minimum the category requires and triple what goes into the añejo. It's bottled at 40% ABV. The distiller's notes describe praline, roasted pineapple, and vanilla, with the wood tannins kept in balance for a long, complex finish. It comes in the brand's blue-arrow bottle, a nod to the name, which means blue arrow. This is a sipping tequila; pour it neat in a snifter or copita and give it a few minutes to open up.
