Flowers Vineyard and Winery is one of the best-known names on the extreme Sonoma Coast, working with ridgetop vineyards close to the Pacific, where fog, wind and cool temperatures set the pace for the harvest. The Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is the winery's broader appellation bottling and is known for its savory, forest-leaning character. Bottled at 14.1% alcohol, it carries a distinctive forest note, with aromas that recall the moist morning canopy of an old-growth redwood grove. Mineral, fresh and cool, the nose is joined by herbal botanicals and the umami quality of tamari and pine. On the palate, delicate and juicy red raspberry and tart plum are married to the earth, with fine, chalky textures running throughout. Acidity stays bright and the tannins are polished, so the wine finishes clean and refreshing rather than heavy. It is a precise, pure style that rewards slow sipping and a little air.
